Peacemakers
In the Bible, Jesus says, "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they will be called children of God”. At LCES, our students are trained in conflict management, problem solving techniques, and ways to build positive relationships. Our Grade 3, 4 and 5 students participate in the Peacemaker program. Students in Grade 3 are trained in the fall and begin participating in January. They continue serving our school through Grade 4 and 5. At each second nutrition break recess, two students are outdoors to help bring peace to our playground. They solve conflicts, help students work together, and work through minor disputes. Through Peacemakers, students gain invaluable skills in how to work together with their classmates and peers.
At LCES, we also educate students with Second Step, a new curriculum developed by the Committee for Children (www.cfchildren.org). Through Second Step, we seek to foster the social and emotional development, safety, and well-being of children through education. This can take place through role plays, class discussions and interactive activities. Lessons include topics such as anger management, impulse control, bullying, problem solving and positive communication skills.
